Family Stuffing Recipe

Servings: 6-8
Prep Time: 30 Minutes
Cook Time: 40 Minutes
Total Time: 1 Hour 10 Minutes

Ingredients

Amount Ingredient Notes
1 Loaf White Bread sliced - or dried stuffing mix
1/2 lb Bacon diced
1/2 lb Pork Sausage with Sage
1/2 Onion large
1-2 Ribs Celery diced
2 T Unsalted Butter
1 1/2 Cup Chicken Broth
2 tsp Poultry Seasoning
1/2 oz Rubbed Sage
Pinch Pepper ground
Pinch Salt

Directions

  1. Use stale bread or toast and tear into chunks. Not wonder bread but some good white bread.
  2. Cook the bacon in a high sided skillet.
  3. Drain off about 3/4's of the fat from the skillet once done.
  4. In the same skillet WITHOUT cleaning it, cook the sausage, onions and celery.  Sauté until brown, stirring often.
  5. Drain fat and cool slightly and drain off fat again.  Transfer to large bowl with slotted spoon.
  6. In the same skillet (don’t wash) melt butter over medium heat.  Stir in 3/4 cup of broth and heat to simmer, scraping up brown bits.  Cool slightly.
  7. Add bread, poultry seasoning, sage, pepper, salt to bacon mixture that is in the bowl.
  8. Pour some broth mixture over bread mixture and toss to mix.
  9. Gradually stir in remaining broth to desired consistency.
    • Desired consistency is mushy and the cubes of bread are all moist and starting to mix together.
  10. Bake at 350 for 40 minutes or until brown.
